Superintendent Nicola Williams said” Today is the start of our Christmas markets, we are working closely with our partners across the city to keep people safe and deliver a successful event. We are looking forward to welcoming all who come to the markets over the coming weeks, you will see our team please say hello. We wish you all the very best, we hope you have a great time and enjoy all that Manchester has to offer.
Inspector Kam Hare, from Greater Manchester, said: "As always, we are excited to welcome the Manchester City Centre Christmas Markets, and the many, many visitors it attracts each year. “We will have extra officers in and around the market and the wider city centre keeping visitors and traders safe and they'll also be on hand to help anybody who has any concerns. "We know the lead up to Christmas can be busy, and we want you to enjoy the festivities safely. Public vigilance is vital when it comes to keeping everyone safe.
We also work with the Manchester City Markets Events Team, stallholders and Showsec security staff are involved with the Christmas Market, so we can all actively recognise signs of suspicious behaviour and act as additional eyes and ears for Greater Manchester Alongside the robust policing operation, we have in place to keep visitors and staff safe, it’s vital that everyone remains alert to suspicious activity. Patrol plans also include deployments by specially trained officers from Project Servator. These patrols are unpredictable and utilise a range of tactics designed to disrupt a range of criminal activity, including terrorism, whilst providing a reassuring presence for the public. We’re asking the public to trust their instincts, and if you see something that doesn’t feel right, tell security or police straight away. We take every report seriously and you’ll never be wasting our time, so don’t wait for someone else to do it. Always call 999 in an emergency.
