TYLDESLEY & ASTLEY - Prolific shoplifter – charged and remanded

Sean Patrick MURRAY of Tyldesley has today been charged with theft-shoplifting, breach of a Criminal Behaviour Order and breach of a community order. He has been remanded to appear before Wigan & Leigh magistrates court on Monday 10 March 2025.

The financial impact of retail crime is significant: a recent survey by the British Retail Consortium showed the total cost of retail crime nationally sits at £4.2 billion, £2.2 billon of which is a direct result of customer theft.

Nationally there has also been a rise in violence and abuse linked to these incidents.

Retail crime is a priority of the Neighbourhood Team and we will continue to utilise legislation under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 20214 to obtain CBOs on repeat offenders that cause the most harm to protect our retailers and improve community safety.
