Protecting Your Home During Diwali |
||
Hi Resident, As families prepare to celebrate Diwali, we’re urging residents across Tameside to take extra steps to protect family gold and valuable jewellery. Sadly, we see a rise in burglaries around religious festivals, with offenders targeting homes for high-purity gold jewellery – often gifted at weddings and passed down through generations.
Protect your home and heritage: Store jewellery in a bank deposit box or a secure, insurance-rated safe anchored to the floor or wall. Photograph and document your items for insurance and recovery. Be discreet when wearing jewellery in public. Lock doors and windows – even for short trips out. Remove tools or objects outside that could be used to break in. Let trusted neighbours know if you’re away.
Spot something suspicious? Report it: Online: Home | Greater Manchester Police Call 101 Anonymous tip: Independent UK charity taking crime information anonymously | Crimestoppers or call 0800 555 111 We’re increasing patrols in hotspot areas across all the areas of Tameside, but your vigilance is key. Let’s work together to keep our communities safe this Diwali.
