Sex Offender Arrested as Officers Target Crime in Piccadilly Gardens |
||
|
Officers from the Piccadilly Gardens Neighbourhood Policing Team have carried out a significant day of proactive policing, utilising a range of tactics to keep the area safe and disrupt criminal activity.
Earlier today, officers deployed Live Facial Recognition (LFR) technology in the Gardens as part of ongoing efforts to identify wanted individuals and those posing a risk to the public. The operation quickly delivered results.
PC Duffy and PC Cross arrested an adult male who was identified as a registered sex offender. Following his arrest, a search of his mobile phone uncovered images of children, a deeply concerning discovery. The male remains in custody and is awaiting interview by detectives as enquiries continue.
In a separate incident, PC Lomax and Sergeant Jon Wyatt located a prolific offender linked to repeated anti-social behaviour in the Gardens—without the assistance of LFR. The individual was found to be breaching bail conditions, a Community Protection Notice, and was also observed begging. He has since been charged with six separate offences and remanded to appear at court on the morning of 29 April.
Rounding off a busy day, PC Simm and PC Zamecnik arrested a further male who had failed to attend court after previously being found in possession of an offensive weapon. He is now back in custody.
Sergeant Jon Wyatt said:
The Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to maintain a visible presence in Piccadilly Gardens, working to ensure the space is safe and welcoming for the public while taking decisive action against those involved in criminality and anti-social behaviour.
