Neighbourhood Team Engagement in Ancoats and Miles Platting

On 11 September 2026, I carried out a high-visibility foot patrol across Ancoats, Manchester, as part of ongoing efforts to support the local community and address concerns affecting the area.

During the patrol, I distributed crime prevention leaflets to residents and placed advisory leaflets on vehicles to raise awareness of a recent increase in vehicle crime, particularly incidents involving cars being broken into after valuables have been left on display overnight. I also spoke with members of the public, offering advice on simple steps they can take to reduce their chances of becoming a victim of crime.

Motorists were encouraged to remove all valuables from their vehicles before leaving them unattended, including bags, phones, wallets, cash, sat navs, charging cables and any other items that may be visible through windows. I also advised residents to ensure their vehicles are locked, windows and sunroofs are fully closed, and any alarms or security devices are activated. Taking these simple precautions can significantly reduce opportunities for opportunistic thieves.

During my engagement with residents, I also promoted Bee in the Loop, Greater Manchester Police's free community messaging service. Bee in the Loop allows residents to receive updates about local policing activity, crime prevention advice, community events and issues affecting their neighbourhood.
